Farmer is the King. This has been the mantra very diligently followed by the Indian seed industry in the recent years. In an industry, where the producer and the consumer is the same i.e. farmers, the seed industry has built a lasting relationship with farmers. The seed industry has been striving hard to satisfy the challenges posed by the farmers for new and improved seeds and technologies that can better their profitability. Farmers have appreciated this contribution to their prosperity through their sustained reposing of trust in the seeds provided by the industry.
The science and technology driven industry has thus benefited from investments in state of art R & D and seed processing infrastructure and is continuously innovating to meet the expectations for delivering better products. The industry through its maturity and foresight, with a annual turnover of more than Rs. 9000 crores (> $ 2 billion) has emerged to rank among the top five seed economies in the world. With a 15 - 20 % growth rate, which is more than double of the global growth rate for the sector, we may soon reach the third position.
The Indian Seed Congress, the annual forum for the Indian seed industry to review its status, deliberate on issues constraining its growth and new technological advances, showcase new product line and services and network for better trade relations, is eagerly looked forward to by all stakeholders.
